When launching a new web app, or site, it can help to start marketing early. A “coming soon” page has several different purposes. Firstly, it allows you to show a teaser of your new app to people and to start the ball rolling with building the excitement. Just wondering, aren’t coming soon pages bad from an SEO perspective? They are being crawled by search engines and cached and they basically have no content on them. Wouldn’t it be better to wait until the full site launches?
Actually from basic perspective your right. It is better to launch a website after full completion. But is if you have a domain then its better to design this kind of page and leave it on web. Because this will gives us a impact in domain age. And that is valuable. :)

The grammar in people’s comments is truly very sad. I hope it’s because they speak English as a second language.
These are some fantastic examples of holding/coming soon pages. When I come to create a coming soon page I generally use a couple of rules such as simple is better and keep it about the ‘fold’. You are just wanting to gain an interest and tease the viewers with what is about to come. Using a contact form or a news letter sign up is always a good idea as well as links to social networks.
Some of these coming soon pages are better than the products themselves. ;)

These are a really good collection of holding pages. I like the idea behind the April/Zero holding page.
I also have concerns like Tim about the SEO implications of holding pages, but I think if a holding page is well designed and grabs users attention that can grab users attention and get them coming back for more.

Very inspirational article. It looks like most of these holding pages focus on simple, prominent content and an obvious opportunity to preregister. We’ve tried to apply this to our site (launching in a few weeks) and I think it’s worked quite well.
