Global News: A Free WordPress News Theme – Updated!
Many of you may know that last week we released a multi-functional free wordpress news theme named “Global News” and due to some technical reasons we had to remove it from our servers. And now, after scanning all files as we promised, we are again making it available to our readers exclusively.
“Global News”, as the name implies, is a Newspaper Style WordPress Theme that has all the features of a typical newspaper site. This theme was designed by InstantShift and developed by RapidXHTML as an exclusive gift for our readers.
The idea was to design an universal WordPress News Theme that’s focused on content and images, with an invisible, yet typical newspaper design. News themes are often very hard to customize and difficult to handle for a single person but this time we want to design this theme with various admin options and widgets to make your life simple.

Inspiration Behind The Design
The basic idea behind this theme first comes in mind when we looked around and saw that there are only very few good news themes available over web for WordPress platform and most of them are premium or paid once. So, we wanted to create something useful and make it available to share with design community for FREE. That is one of few strong reasons which inspired us to design this theme. Therefore, we sit together and draw the rough idea on paper. When the things had finished up with designing part the next question which comes in our mind is the conversion of design. The aim was to design an universal WordPress news theme that’s focused on content and images, with an invisible, yet typical newspaper design.
News themes are often very hard to customize and difficult to handle for a single person but this time we want to design this theme with various admin options and widgets to make your life simple. There really are very few limits to what WordPress can handle, so we’ve decided to built in a lot of custom features and some admin options to give people a little flexibility in handling, and give them a feel that how some small functionality tweaks can make a huge difference to the overall experience of browsing a news theme/blog. This time we’ve decided to not to code this theme by our own so we’ve stumbled upon many designers around and finally contacted RapidxHTML for the conversion part and i must say we’re surprised with their designing skills and we had fulfilled with all our expectations and even more.
After running few successful tests and plugin optimization we’ve finally end up with current theme. Hope you all going to like it.

The theme has a 3-column-based layout and, is based on daily news paper and aimed to showcase your content in a unique package and take your news website to the whole new level. The PSD source file of the logo image has also been included with the package. This theme design can be used for any project and will be useful especially for news-related projects.

Couple of tips:
Make sure you are running PHP5 for some of the functions (Weather plugin especially)

Since I have lots of posts I just changed the code: &tag=newsflash1 etc by &cat=25 etc so the theme now displays posts by categories.
I’d like to change the background color: header footer etc and also add a menu with the pages. Any advices about?

News Flash works sporadically and the Today’s Highlights doesn’t work at all. I love the look, but it doesn’t work. I’ve spent hours on this and it just flat out doesn’t work.
I left a comment last night, but it appears that it has been deleted because it was negative. The scroll doesn’t work — either the newsflash or the pics under the feature article. And it won’t put my text in the header. Definitely got what I paid for — nothing. I really like the look of the layout and was excited to use it, so good marks for that, but to use it? Ain’t working.
the theme works fine on wordpress 3.0,the theme is not the problem, its your servers, I had to enable PHP curl for it to work.. Its a great theme, Ive used it on a client’s site. the only problem is that the images fail to load sometimes, but I think thats a problem with TimThumb..

and WP is telling me that the theme doesn’t include its stylesheet.
Despite older comments, it seem to works okay. You should just replace some depreceated function (get_setting for get_options) and maybe one or another trick you are attached to.

Very nice them when we see demo but in practical very complicated. Please tell how we can publish post on page as u said ad the tag where should we have to add tags . i have added featured tag so many place but didnt get post on home.

Is there any way to have it guess the zip code of the reader by IP address or location?

.. now this is kinda funny for “free” theme. What kind of client would want to have your link or any other link in footer?
